April 17th Happy Birthday Keith
Alexandria: Spend the day exploring the seaside city, including Pompey's Pillar, the catacombs and the new Alexadria Library.
Alexandria was founded by Alexander the Great in 331 BC, Egypt's only Mediterrean city is characteristic European with refreshing sea breeze.
Pompey's Pillar: The name is a misnomer, as it has nothing to do with Pompey, having been erected in 293 for Emperor Diocletian, possibly in memory of the rebellion of Domitius Domitianus.
Catacombs of Kom El Shoqafa Visit: These tombs were tunneled into the bedrock in the age of the Antonine Emperors (2nd century AD) for a single weathly family still practicing the ancient Egyptian religion.
Alexandria Library Visit: The Ancient Library of Alexandria was probably the largest and certainly most famous of the libraries of the ancient world. It flourised during the Greek rule and functioned as a major center of scholarship, at least until the Roman conquest of Egypt. The old library was destroyed in a fire in the 1st century BC. The new library opened in 2002.
Hotel: Metropole Hotel. Great sea view

April 20th (final day G tour)
Tours ends after breakfast.
We have booked the Flamenco for tonight. Free day to explore more of Cairo. We chose to go visit the new Grand Egyptian Museum. Officially the museum doesn't open until July when they will move the final King Tut collection, but much of the museum was open. It was a grand, modern museum; well thought out for spacing, lighting, room for tour guides, etc.
April 21st
Free day today. We will transfer this afternoon the the Le Meridien hotel at the airport. We have an early, early (2am) flight on the 22nd back home. Hopefully, an afternoon of pool relax and dinner at the hotel or airport.
April 22nd
Start back for home.
2:10am to 6:10am Cairo to Warsaw on LO148. Quick connect.
7:40am to 9:40am Warsaw to Frankfurt on LO381 Business lounge was good, but let me down when they had no 'pork' sausage (just Weisswurst), so I'll have to wait until I get home to have bacon :)
1:30pm to 3:55pm Frankfurt to Denver on LH446.
Landline reserved for trip back to Loveland Airport. This worked very well, free parking for 2+ weeks at FNL, avoids driving back from DIA when flight tired.
