Colorado Symphony Orchestra March 22nd

Sat 22 March 2025

Grace and I went down to Denver for the Colorado Sympthony. We started with dinner at Tamayo. This is the 'renewed' Tamayo. They spent Jan/Feb closed as they did a remodel. We dinned upstairs, first time for Grace, they have made the upstairs space a good meetup location and added a few more dining tables. Grace had the Tampiquena - a steak, mole enchilada, guacamole, roasted jalapeno and refried beans. Luckily, I found out the enchilada mole was stuffed with mushrooms and adjusted my order to the Alambrew Skewers. 3 skewers of steak, chorizo, bacon rolls serve in a tripod over melted mexican cheeses and tomatillo chili morita sauce. Unfortunately, no food pictures :(.

Since we had an early dinner, we attended the pre-show lecture at Boettcher Hall. Very informative on Rossini's William Tell Opera (and the overture).

The performance was Rossini's William Tell Overture from William Tell. They Principal Oboist Peter Cooper took center stage for Hidas' Concerto for Oboe. This was very interesting and very challenging Oboe work. An instrument rarely heard in the symphonic orchestra. The final piece was Beethoven's Seventh Symphony. This work has been dubbed the 'apotheosis of dance' due to the whirling, spinning motion at the heart of the composition. The iconic second movement 'Allegretto' stands alone as a powerful, hauntingly beautiful, and relentlessly rhythmic piece of music that remains one of Beethove's most beloved works.
